Overview:

A two-day workshop aiming to illustrate what creative documentaries can mean in the context of policy advocacy and creating change. Through screenings of powerful films, and understanding their impact campaigns, students will engage with various approaches to creating and using advocacy documentaries.

About the Speakers:

Samarth Mahajan is a self-taught non-fiction filmmaker. ‘The Unreserved’, his national award-winning feature, received broadcast & theatrical releases in India. Recognized by IIT Kharagpur as a Young Alumni Achiever, he is currently directing and producing ‘Borderlands’ – about how everyday lives intertwine with borders in the Indian subcontinent.

After solo-backpacking across India and South Asia for 18 months, Nupur Agrawal directed a film where she hitch hiked along India’s west-coast enquiring the lives of truck drivers. She is the Executive Producer & Associate Director on ‘Borderlands’. Supported by one of the largest crowdfunding campaigns for an Indian film, it featured at the 2020 Cannes Film Market.
