Prospective applicants for Masters in Public Policy at ADCPS need a valid GATE score if they wish to be considered for a Teaching Assistant (TA/TAP) position, or apply as a Self-Financed (SF) candidate. For the SF category, GATE score is required for those who do not have five years of prior work experience.
In addition to engineering-related subjects, GATE exam is also conducted for various ‘Humanities and Social Science’ subjects. Applicants with academic training in social sciences or humanities can take the GATE exam for these subjects to apply for MPP at ADCPS. The relevant subject codes for taking GATE in ‘Humanities and Social Sciences’ include: i) Economics (XH-C1); ii) English (XH-C2); ii) Linguistics (XH-C3); iv) Philosophy (XH-C4); v) Psychology (XH-C5); and vi) Sociology (XH-C6).
The last date to register for GATE for the 2024 admissions cycle is September 29, 2023.
The programme will be open to students from all backgrounds provided they fulfill minimum eligibility criteria as listed below.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria
(i) A two years Master’s degree or a 4-year bachelor’s degree (post 10+2) in Arts, Commerce, or an equivalent degree, or an LLB# with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or /equivalent letter grade*/ GPA from a recognized institution or deemed university ( as recognized by AICTE/UGC/AIU).
(ii) A two year MSc/MS/MTech degree or a 4-year BSc/BS/BTech/BArch degree (post 10+2) or equivalent degree* with a minimum of 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or equivalent letter grade*/GPA from a recognized institution or deemed university (as recognized by AICTE/UGC/AIU).
* All equivalent degrees must be certified by their respective institution (s).
# LLB should be completed after undergraduate degree and can be equivalent to a 4 yrs bachelor degree
# Five year integrated LLB after (10+2) can be equivalent to a 4 yrs bachelor degree
All candidates, will be required, to have fulfilled the minimum eligibility criteria. Successful candidates will be invited for an interview, only after which their admission to the programme can be confirmed.
A) Teaching Assistant category (TA):
ADCPS will offer about 10-12 TAships per academic year. Candidates applying for Institute’s TAships will be required to submit VALID GATE scores to be considered for the same.
B) Teaching Assistantship through Project (TAP):
ADCPS will offer, depending upon project availability, teaching assistantships through project (TAP). Candidates applying for TAP positions (if available) will be required to submit VALID GATE scores to be considered for the same.
C) (i) Self-Finance (SF)
The MPP programme will also be open to all Self – Finance candidates with work experience and in-service candidates. In-service candidates working in government organizations or a Public Sector Undertaking, must ensure that their organization will permit them to undertake the requisite course work and project, for the duration of the MPP programme.
[Note: The 5 year duration mentioned above will be counted from the date of qualifying the UG degree till the date of joining the MPP programme of the Institute].
(ii) ADCPS will offer eligible candidates, at least 5 competitive Research Assistantship positions.
(iii) Sponsored (SW) category:
D) Fellowship Award Category (FA):
The MPP programme will also be open to all FA category candidates, receiving fellowships or scholarships from government or semi-government agencies.
The financial support under the FA category may be provided by various Govt./Semi Govt. schemes (CSIR, UGC, DAE, DST, DBT, NBHM, etc.) and some other organizations. A valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award letter from the Govt. / Semi Govt. agency (e.g., CSIR/UGC/DAE/DST/DBT/NBHM/etc.) is required for the execution of this fellowship/scholarship.
E) Candidates of all categories, will be required, to have fulfilled the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned above.
NOTE: No candidate will be exempt from appearing for ADCPS’s entrance exam and interview in order to be considered for the MPP programme
F) Employment/Career Opportunities
Through its programmes, ADCPS aims to give its students tools which are applicable in diverse situations and teach students how to adapt to various fields, contexts, or situations. Students of the programmes can then find themselves fitting into and contributing to the public or private sectors, working within the government, or in the not-for-profit/ NGO sector. They may choose to work for large corporations as analysts or lobbyists, or may do policy research in IOs, think tanks, or Universities
