Master’s Programme

Prospective applicants for Masters in Public Policy at ADCPS need a valid GATE score if they wish to be considered for a Teaching Assistant (TA/TAP) position, or apply as a Self-Financed (SF) candidate. For the SF category, GATE score is required for those who do not have five years of prior work experience.

In addition to engineering-related subjects, GATE exam is also conducted for various ‘Humanities and Social Science’ subjects. Applicants with academic training in social sciences or humanities can take the GATE exam for these subjects to apply for MPP at ADCPS. The relevant subject codes for taking GATE in ‘Humanities and Social Sciences’ include: i) Economics (XH-C1); ii) English (XH-C2); ii) Linguistics (XH-C3); iv) Philosophy (XH-C4); v) Psychology (XH-C5); and vi) Sociology (XH-C6).

The last date to register for GATE for the 2024 admissions cycle is September 29, 2023.

Admission Process and Policy

Admission to IIT Bombay’s MPP program is based on the applicant’s performance in a written test and an interview, in compliance with the reservation policies mandated by the Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold any one of the following qualifying degrees:

Admission Categories

Applicants admitted under the Teaching Assistantship (TA) category will receive a monthly fellowship. A valid GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score is mandatory for TA positions, and candidates with qualifying scores in GATE subjects, including Humanities and Social Sciences, are eligible to apply for this category.

Additionally, other national-level scholarships and sponsorships offered by central and state governments may be availed, subject to the fulfillment of the required eligibility criteria.

The MPP programme is open to Self-Financed (SF) candidates and in-service candidates without a valid GATE score.

  • In-Service Candidates: Those employed in government organizations or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) must obtain permission from their employer to undertake the required coursework and project during the programme’s duration.

  • Candidates with GATE Scores: Applicants with a valid GATE score may also apply for SF seats and may be considered for Teaching/Research Assistantships through Project (TAP/RAP).

  • SF Candidates Without GATE Scores: Candidates without a valid GATE score must have completed their qualifying degree at least two years prior to the intended date of admission.

  • Fresh Graduates: Candidates without work experience must possess a valid GATE score to be eligible for SF seats.

Note

  • Candidates of all categories, will be required, to have fulfilled the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned above.
  • No candidate will be exempt from appearing for ADCPS’s entrance exam and interview in order to be considered for the MPP programme
Employment/Career Opportunities
Through its programmes, ADCPS aims to give its students tools which are applicable in diverse situations and teach students how to adapt to various fields, contexts, or situations. Students of the programmes can then find themselves fitting into and contributing to the public or private sectors, working within the government, or in the not-for-profit/ NGO sector. They may choose to work for large corporations as analysts or lobbyists, or may do policy research in IOs, think tanks, or Universities

How do I begin the application process for MPP?
It is an online application process. Please visit the IITB website.
How do I know if I am eligible for this course?
The eligibility criteria are clearly displayed under the Academics Section on CPS website.
Are applicants with 3 years of course work (BA, BSc, BCom, etc.) eligible for applying?
No, they are not eligible to apply. Please visit the eligibility criteria given on the CPS website (link above).
How much do I have to pay for the course? Is there any financial support?
The fee is as per IIT norms – see this for the fee structure of the latest semester. This also has the various categories that one can be admitted under. Broadly, you are expected to pay the course fee as well as the hostel fee. If you are admitted under the Teaching Assistant (TA) category, you will be paid a stipend. If you are a self-financed student, you will not receive any financial assistance.
What is the admission procedure?
There is a written test, followed by interviews of shortlisted candidates. Admissions usually open in March/April. The date for the entrance exam is displayed under the Academics >> Masters Programme section of our website. You can also view the question paper from last year on the same page.
Can working professionals do this course?
Working professionals can join the MPP programme under Self Finance. Please understand that course work is compulsory for the first year. All students are expected to treat the programmes as full-time engagement.
