Admission Process and Policy

Admission to IIT Bombay’s MPP programme is based on the applicant’s performance in a written test and an interview and adhering to the reservation policies outlined by the Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold any one of the following qualifying degrees:

  1. Any two-year master’s degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree (post 10+2) in Arts, Commerce, or equivalent* or an LLB, with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or equivalent letter grade/GPA from a recognised institution or deemed university (as recognised by AICTE/UGC/AIU).
  2. A two-year MSc/MS/MTech degree or a four-year BSc/BS/BTech/BArch degree or an MBBS degree (post 10+2) or equivalent*, with a minimum of 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or equivalent letter grade/GPA from a recognised institution or deemed university (as recognised by AICTE/UGC/AIU).

*All equivalent degrees must be certified by their respective institution(s).

Teaching Assistantship (TA)
  • Applicants admitted in the Teaching Assistantship (TA) category will receive a monthly fellowship. A valid GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score is mandatory for TA positions, and candidates fulfilling this criteria in GATE subjects, including Humanities and Social Sciences, are eligible to apply for Teaching Assistantship.
  • Other national-level scholarships and sponsorships can be availed from the central and state governments, subject to fulfilling the required eligibility criteria.
Self-Finance (SF) and In-Service Candidates
  • The MPP programme is also open to Self-Finance candidates and in-service candidates without a GATE score.
  • In-service candidates working in government organisations or a Public Sector Undertaking must ensure that their organisation will permit them to undertake the requisite course work and project for the duration of the MPP programme.
  • Candidates with a valid GATE score are also eligible to apply for the SF seats and may be considered for Teaching/Research Assistantships through Project (TAP/RAP).
  • SF candidates without a valid GATE score, must have completed their qualifying degree on a date at least two years prior to their possible date of admission to the MPP programme.
  • Additionally, candidates without any work experience must have a valid GATE score to be eligible to apply for SF seats.
