Admission Process and Policy

Admission to IIT Bombay’s MPP program is based on the applicant’s performance in a written test and an interview, in compliance with the reservation policies mandated by the Government of India.

Eligibility

Applicants to the MPP programme must meet any one of the following two minimum eligibility criteria:

*All equivalent degrees and letter grades/GPA must be certified by the respective institution(s).
#Five-year Integrated LLB (post 10+2) and LLB completed after undergraduate degree can be considered equivalent to a four-year bachelor’s degree.

Admission Categories

Applications are invited under the following intake categories. Candidates applying to any category will be required to have fulfilled the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned above.

The Centre may offer about 10–12 Teaching Assistantships in a year. Applicants admitted under the Teaching Assistantship (TA) category will receive a monthly fellowship. A valid GATE score is mandatory for TA positions. Candidates with qualifying scores in any GATE subjects, including Humanities and Social Sciences, are eligible to apply for this category.

The Centre may offer, depending upon project availability, Teaching/Research Assistantships through Project (TAP/RAP). Candidates applying for TAP/RAP positions (if available) will be required to submit a valid GATE score to be considered for the same. Candidates with qualifying scores in any GATE subjects, including Humanities and Social Sciences, are eligible to apply for this category.

The Fellowship Awardee (FA) category is open to candidates receiving fellowships or scholarships from government or semi-government agencies through various schemes such as CSIR, UGC*, DAE, DST, DBT, NBHM, etc. Candidates with a valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award letter from the concerned government or semi-government agency are eligible to apply for the FA category.

*UGC-NET JRF award for MPhil has been discontinued

The programme is open to all Self-Finance candidates with work experience and in-service candidates. In-service candidates working in government organisations or a Public Sector Undertaking must ensure that their organisation will permit them to undertake the requisite course work and project for the duration of the MPP programme.

(i) Self-Finance (SF)
  1. Candidates without any experience will need to submit a valid GATE score.
  2. SF candidates must have completed their undergraduate degree on a date which is at least 2 years prior to their possible admission to the MPP programme.
    [Note: The 2 years duration mentioned above will be counted from the date of qualifying the UG degree till the date of joining the MPP programme of the Institute].

GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the Self-Finance seats.

(ii) Sponsored (SW)
  1. Candidates without any experience will need to submit a valid GATE score.
  2. SW candidates with 2 years plus work experience will not need to submit a valid GATE score.

No candidate will be exempt from appearing for ADCPS’ entrance exam and interview.

Note: A valid GATE score is required, without exceptions, for candidates applying under TA/TAP/RAP categories to be considered for the same.

Employment/Career Opportunities

Through its MPP programme, ADCPS aims to equip students with tools applicable in diverse situations and teach how to adapt to various fields, contexts, and situations. Students can find themselves fitting into and contributing to the public or private sectors, working within the government or in the not-for-profit/NGO sector. They may choose a career path with large corporations as analysts or may pursue policy research in IOs, think tanks, or Universities.
