The Global Landscape of Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development in Higher Education: Plus Reflections on India

·
-

Abstract: This exhaustive scoping study provides foundational understandings regarding the ways in which Global Citizenship Education (GCE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) are studied and conceptualized in the field of higher education across the globe. The research team combined a systematic literature review and qualitative content analysis of higher education journals and higher education-focused journals (those addressing fields or disciplines focused on research/pedagogy/practice within the higher education sector) to study and organize: 1) the ways in which GCE and ESD in higher education are theorized and conceptualized ; and 2) the strategies/mechanisms in which GCE/ESD are implemented/applied in higher education. Finally, reflective questions regarding GCE/ESD in Indian higher education will be posed for discussion.
