Abstract

We are holding a panel discussion on Dr. Kalindi Kokal’s new book State Law, Dispute Processing and Legal Pluralism – Unspoken Dialogues from Rural India. The book is based on her doctoral research on dispute processing in the states of Maharashtra and Uttarakhand.

Dr. Kalindi Kokal is a post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for Policy Studies. You can see her full profile here.

 

Prof. Meena Gopal is currently chairperson at the Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. She was the Visiting Chair on Contemporary India at the University of Sydney from September to December last year. Her research interests include gender and labour, the political economy of health, welfare and development, sexuality studies, and social movements.

Prof. Suryakant Waghmore is at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences IIT Bombay. Dr. Waghmore completed his B.A in Political Science, History and Economics from Karnataka University (1999) and M.A in Community Development  from TISS (2001). His PhD is in Sociology, from the University of Edinburgh (2010).  Before joining IIT Waghmore was Professor and Chairperson at the Centre for Social Justice and Governance at TISS. He has held visiting affiliations at Centre for South Asia – Stanford University; School of Humanities – Hyderabad Central University; Centre for Modern Indian Studies – Univeristy of Göttingen. His research encompasses a mixed method approach to study social exclusion, politics at the margins, policy processes, and state-civil society relations.
