An experienced urban planner, Dr. Malini Krishnankutty has a PhD (2018) in Habitat Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and graduate degrees (M. Arch & M. City Planning 1994) from the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Over the last two and a half decades, she has served as a consultant on several urban planning projects, including Regional Plans (for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Goa), Mumbai’s Development Plan, and sectoral projects.

Recently, she was one of two members on an Expert Master Plan Committee of a small municipality in Kerala that helped the town with preparing its own master plan through a very innovative bottom-up, truly participatory process. Past engagements include serving as a member of the Working group on Spatial Planning of the Sixth Finance Commission, Government of Kerala in 2021-22 and serving as the Secretary of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Heritage Conservation Society and Environmental Improvement Society between 2016-18.
